Nadat er iets is ontploft in het hoofd van Tannekes oma, verhuist ze naar rusthuis Roestelhof. Daar is oma Fideldij altijd moe. Tanneke wil haar vrolijke oma terug. Daarom richt ze samen met de geheimzinnige Nico Laes en drie klasgenoten De Rode Toeter Brigade op. Het grootste obstakel is Mevrouw de Directeur. Haar stropdas is soms zo scherp als een dolk.
