Oorlogsfotograaf en meervoudig Zilveren Camera-winnaar Teun Voeten (Boxtel, 1961) heeft al vanaf 1978, toen hij er als uitwisselingsscholier een jaar woonde, een passie voor New York. Later zou hij er gaan studeren en sinds 2000 is hij officieel ingezetene van de stad, wiens architectuur hij tussen zijn oorlogsreportages door vastlegt.
Het fotoboek New York laat in tijdloos zwart/wit een selectie van 60 van zijn met een technische camera genomen architectuurfoto’s zien, aangevuld met foto’s van New Yorks Meatpacking District en Coney Island, en komen thema’s als armoede, rassenonlusten en daklozen aan bod.
Since he visited New York for the first time as an exchange-student in 1978, war photographer and cultural anthropologist, Dr. Teun Voeten has developed a deep passion for the city of New York. Beginning in 1990, between visiting war zones and working on his photo journalistic projects, Teun has been creating his extraordinary photographic series of New York architecture, shot in a consistent style, with a technical camera on medium format black and white film. This book presents 60 of Teun Voeten’s finest New York architectural photographs, as well as a selection of his images of the old meat packing district, Coney Island, the underground homeless, and illustrations of poverty and ethnic tensions in the city.
