Sinds 1996 werkt Joost Swarte regelmatig voor The New Yorker. In dit boek staan meer dan 450 tekeningen die Swarte maakte voor dit legendarische weekblad: schetsen, illustraties, 'spots' en omslagen. Zijn cover 'Summer Reading' werd in 2008 bekroond met een Award of Excellence door het Amerikaanse vakblad Communication Arts.
Joost Swarte tekent stripverhalen sinds 1968. In een heldere tekenstijl verbeeldt hij gecompliceerde en eigentijdse thema's. Zijn verhalen stonden in Tante Leny Presenteert, Charlie Mensuel en Raw Magazine. Behalve striptekenaar is hij ook illustrator, architect, letterontwerper, grafisch vormgever en ontwerper van glas-in-loodramen.
