Journalist, activist en schrijver van de eerste Nederlandse homoroman Jacob Israël de Haan (broer van schrijfster Carry van Bruggen) emigreert in 1919 via Londen, Napels en Cairo naar Jeruzalem, en noteert in de Kwatrijnen indrukken, gevoelens, en herinneringen aan Nederland. Als Jood in Palestina blijft hij dat doen tot zijn dood in 1924, terwijl hij daar woont, reist en zich religieus, politiek en sociaal engageert, steeds kritischer op het zionisme. Waarbij een goed oog voor leuke jonge mannen een rode draad is.
Jacob Israël de Haan (brother to Dutch author Carry van Bruggen), journalist, activist and author of the first gay novel in Dutch literature, migrates to Jerusalem in 1919 passing a diversity of cities, notably London, Naples and Cairo. His Quatrains reflect his impressions, feelings, and memories of Holland. In Palestine he keeps on writing poetry, traveling and engaging himself religiously, politically and socially, jewish but very critical towards zionism. An eye for cute young men is a common thread running through all of his observations.
