Quinten De Coene: Works on paper 2021 is een catalogus van beeldend kunstenaar en dichter Quinten De Coene. Dit boek focust zich op de werken in gouache op papier die dienen als schetsen, studies of afgewerkte schilderijen binnenin zijn oeuvre.
De Coene beschouwt deze werken als gedachten in kleur. Ze helpen hem in de voorbereiding voor toekomstige schilderijen op doek en dienen als een beeldend archief – een dagboek in kleuren. Geheugensteuntjes en notities op zijn vele wandelingen en tijdens treinritten in de Vlaamse Ardennen worden zo de rode draad doorheen zijn oeuvre. Wie aandachtig kijkt, ziet de landwegen, velden en akkers opduiken in deze kleine werkjes, alsook de vensters, muren en deuren van het innerlijke.
De Coene sees these works as thoughts in colour. They help him prepare for future paintings on
canvas and serve as a visual archive – a diary in colours. Memories and notes on his many walks
and during train rides in the Flemish Ardennes thus become the common thread throughout his
oeuvre. If you look closely, you will see the country roads, fields and meadows appearing in these
small works, as well as the windows, walls and doors of the interior.
