PANIEK IN DE POËZIE / PANIC IN POETRY

Gedichten over de God Pan / Poems about the God Pan

Description

In Ovid's Metamorphoses the goat-foot God Pan caused the nymph Syrinx to change into the flute called after him, when he chased her into the river, while Plutarch wrote that Pan died at the very moment that Christ was born. Pan's hair-raising appearances caused the panic named after him, but the Greek word "pan" = ''all", made him live on in the poetic imagination too. He has even been equated on the one hand with the devil and on the other with Christ. This anthology enables English and Dutch readers to relish these 30 texts in their own language, and translated into the other.
