De ouders van Jacco, Alfons en Annie raken er meer en meer van overtuigd dat Jacco niet is als andere kinderen. Hij is manipulatief, doortrapt, weinig empathisch en er komen veel klachten over hem.
Alfons belandt in concentratiekamp Buchenwald en komt voor een moeilijke beslissing te staan. Voor zijn uiteindelijke besluit heeft hij kampcommandant Pister nodig. Hij waagt het hem te spreken te vragen.
