Island Nights' Entertainments

Stevenson, Robert Louis

Description

Island Nights' Entertainments (also known as South Sea Tales) is a bunch of short stories by Robert Louis Stevenson, first printed in 1893. It includes three stories: The Beach of Falesa, The Bottle Imp and The Isle of Voices. This is a set of three of Stevenson's most distinguished short stories, written out of his own experience living in the South Seas. The Beach at Falesa is a tale of Europeans in the South Seas. It analyses the relationship between the white men and the locals, and also that which ties the white men to each other. The Bottle Imp is a short story about a young man in San Francisco, who comes across a bottle that houses a devil who grants any wish but at a horrible price. This is a modern fairytale, brilliantly written with three-dimensional characters. The Isle of Voices is set in Hawaii. A man, Keola resists his father in law who happens to be a wizard. It is a tale of spells and the main idea is that of invisibility. This is a short enthralling story of suspense, magic and evil, set in a remote island. All these stories are mysterious and delightful.
