Charles is een buitenbeentje in zijn klas en dat bevalt hem prima. Totdat hij in contact komt met Elif. Langzamerhand raakt hij steeds meer van haar onder de indruk. En dat blijkt wederzijds te zijn. Maar Elif komt uit een zeer traditioneel gezin en hun vriendschap stuit op veel verzet. Vooral Arif, Elifs broer maakt het hun erg moeilijk. Zijn houding wordt steeds agressiever en hij krijgt belangstelling voor het fundamentalisme. Ondanks de verzoeningspogingen van Charles en Elif dreigt de situatie volkomen uit de hand te lopen.
