In de woelige jaren tachtig zwalkt de opgroeiende Katrien in Zuid-Afrika heen en weer tussen haar politieke overtuiging en haar liefhebbende, maar oerconservatieve familie. 'Tolbos' speelt in de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw, die vol waren van politieke onlusten ten gevolge van Apartheid. Het vertelt het verhaal van twee zoekende zielen die elkaar ondanks hun verschillen niet kunnen loslaten.
