Habonimana, Jean Baptiste, Nduwumwami, Pierre Claver

Description

This Scoping Study is Scaling-up rural youth access to inclusive financial services for entrepreneurship and employment¿¿ The current research study seeks to identify existing innovative financing mechanisms in Burundi in order to inform different stakeholders in general and in particular, Eastern African Farmers¿ Federation (EAFF)¿s strategy development in order to promote and select successful financing models that will form the basis for training programs for the youth and ultimately matching them to agricultural finances. The youth group represents a major portion (86.9%) of the population in Burundi. Young people constitute the huge majority of Burundi¿s population; thus, understanding their current circumstances, their needs and constraints, their challenges, opportunities in accessing financial and non Financial products and/or services could not only help to promote their agribusiness projects but also ensure that they become productive citizens in Burundi. Youths however are not very enthusiastic about agriculture given the perceived higher risk therein as opposed to other businesses.
