Forchu, Ijeoma

Description

Women in Nigeria are saddled with cultural inhibitions and poor policy protection of their reproductive rights. This book sought to identify coping mechanisms that women resident in Enugu State adopt in their negotiations with spouses, and the effectiveness of these strategies, as perceived by them in achieving desired family sizes. The survey research design was adopted. Information collected included demographics, cultural norms and practices of family planning in Enugu State, techniques that women employ in negotiating with their husbands for desired family sizes, differences in the coping strategies adopted by rural and urban women in achieving desired family sizes, and effectiveness of the coping strategies adopted by women. T- tests show statistically significant differences the effectiveness of the strategies adopted by rural and urban women. This book recommends the provision of a conducive environment that gives equal opportunity in all spheres of human endeavor, as well as instituting a systematic education for women and men on reproductive rights. This will enhance the well-being of all genders and conduce to sustainable development.
