Melanie Gibson tracks Leighton’s travels through Algeria, Syria, and beyond to investigate how the impressions and acquisitions he brought home from these trips were incorporated into his house. His most distinctive creation was the Arab Hall a domed room with decoration including glazed tiles, coloured glass, mosaics and elaborate woodwork.
