Only the artists of Persia's Safavid Dynasty (1501-1722) could have produced the bookbinding masterwork that inspired this cover artwork. Commissioned by one of the art-minded Safavid princes of Shiraz, the design seen on Paperblanks Shiraz journal was initially crafted from embossed, gilded and handpainted black goatskin, and overlaid with delicate gold filigree.
