"The Sand-Reckoner" is a fictional account of Archimedes that begins with the young thinker enjoying a sojourn at Ptolemy's Museum in Alexandria. His joy is curtailed when he returns to Syracuse to help his ailing father and the war of his home city of Syracuse against the Romans.
