The pressure is on: people move to cities in ever growing numbers. Of course they are, because that is where jobs and amenities are. But urbanization does not automatically result in liveable and prosperous cities. Can we do better? Can we make our cities more sustainable, both ecologically and socially? We want cities to be energy efficient, less wasteful and more circular, have a different type of mobility arrangement and be socially inclusive rather than divisive. Large ambitions, and a huge challenge if taken on all at once.
In this book, we revisit the neighbourhood as the designated scale and arena to stage and build our urban futures.
