Mrs Dalloway

Woolf, Virginia

Description

Set around the first half of the 1920s, Mrs Dalloway follows the story of the eponymous protagonist who is planning a party in the evening. A wife of a Conservative Member of Parliament, she recounts memories from her past and muses on her feelings, thoughts and experiences. Parallels are drawn between her and Septimus Smith, a World War I veteran suffering from shellshock. As the day advances, the lives of strangers and friends collide and form a colourful tapestry, enrapturing all readers. Rather than progressing in a linear fashion, Mrs Dalloway explores its characters’ inner lives associatively. Drawing on modernist techniques, such as stream of consciousness and discussing Woolfian themes such as gender, the passage of time and lesbian love, the novel had a revolutionary impact on literature. This edition makes Mrs Dalloway available in an affordable format, including a link to a free audio book. The text has been based on the first British printing of 1925. In this manner, we hope to keep the legacy of Virginia Woolf and Mrs Dalloway alive.
