Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde

Stevenson, Robert Louis

Description

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a gothic novel by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first printed in 1886. This novel is about a lawyer, named Gabriel John Utterson who inspects strong occurrences between his old friend Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. Dr. Jekyll has been examining with identity. He has evolved a drug which distinct the two sides of his nature, allowing him to leave himself to his most corrupt inclinations as the monstrous Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two sides of the same person's personality, splitted into two bodies by chemical manipulation. As a story it talks about the concept of good and bad that lives in all of us. A book about a split personality or what is technically called 'dissociative identity disorder'. It includes the elements of mystery, surprise and psychological thriller. The names of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the two different egos of the main character, have become shorthand for the expression of wildly opposite behaviour, especially between private and public selves. This is a brilliant example of Victorian fiction.
