Young Bill, the author, moves with his family to a dairy farm in North Devon where he grows up for the next ten years. Adventures and disasters at the farm mark this time. He loves to look after his many pets and to roam the land with his dog Lucy observing wildlife. But there is trouble at school, until he meets the local girls, his first loves.
