In 1880s Paris, the Opera House is haunted by the Phantom, a disfigured genius named Erik. He mentors soprano Christine Daaé, obsessed with her talent and beauty. After abducting her, Erik's jealousy drives him to threaten lives unless she marries him. Moved by her compassion, he frees her and dies of heartbreak as she elopes with her lover Raoul.
