In 1997 a tortoise was found that appeared to be one of the supposedly extinct giant tortoises of the Seychelles islands. A search for others in captivity found a handful of survivors which were brought together in a captive breeding programme. This book describes the highly successful efforts to save the specie; the lows of political obstacles and the highs of a new generation of baby tortoises hatching.
